The Best Brow Option for Oily or Mature Skin? Why Nano Brows Win in 2025

As a licensed permanent makeup artist, I get asked this question all the time - do you offer microblading?

My answer is no, but I do have a great alternative that will suit most clients better. Let me explain.

Microblading is a technique used in permanent makeup that uses a grouping of very fine needles in a “blade-like” fashion and creates a hairlike stroke by making a shallow cut into the skin. This technique is great to create natural hairstrokes for fluffy brows or a more defined look.

That said, there are some limitations to microblading. One, microblading is only suitable for dry to normal skin types. If you have oily skin, microblading is not the best choice as the ink often bleeds within the skin and the hairstroke will look thicker and blurry as time goes on. Two, the technique of microblading can traumatize the skin more. While this is a factor dependent on the artists’ skill level, the depth of application can be difficult to learn as a beginner artist and can greatly impact the result of the permanent makeup as well as the healing process for the client. This can be especially true for mature skin as they tend to be thinner and more delicate.

Nano brows, on the other hand, uses a machine technique that creates light scratches on the surface of the skin to implant ink. This is an excellent method to create realistic hairstrokes, whether fluffy or defined. This is also a great technique suited for any skin types, including oily skin. Because there is typically less trauma to the skin than the microblading method, nano brows are also highly recommended for sensitive and mature skin if you are someone that is looking for an alternative.

I do think that microblading is a great option for some but given the versatility of nano brows and the similarity of the results they can both produce (in terms of style), I choose to only offer nano brows here at Miae Beauty. A lot of great artists still utilize microblading but with the right artist, you’ll be able to achieve the soft, fluffy brows or a more defined style with nano brows!
